Collaborative Research Grants
Request For Proposals
2009-2010 Funding
Deadline 2/6/09
Description
The UC Toxic Substances Research and Teaching Program (TSR&TP) announces the availability of up to $120,000 (total, two year project period) in grant funds for Collaborative Research Grants for innovative research projects in the biological, physical, engineering or social sciences relevant to problems of toxic substances in California.
The emphasis in this call for proposals is to fund interdisciplinary research by two or more investigators who have not collaborated extensively before. Those investigators who are eligible for PI status in the UC System, in any mixture of scholarly disciplines, are invited to submit proposals.
The TSR&TP seeks to encourage the development of interdisciplinary research that will enable collaborators to address the TSR&TP's research needs as well as areas of emerging concern. Proposals must address the relevance of the research to the priority areas or why the issue being addressed is likely to be of importance in the future. In addition, the proposal must define the qualifications of the collaborative team and why their set of skills and expertise is appropriate to address the research topic.
The TSR&TP expects these grants to enable the investigators to effectively compete for extramural funding. In addition, we encourage the use of these grants to initiate collaborations that will form the basis for a Lead Campus proposal in subsequent years.
Award Amount
The maximum amount awarded will be $60,000 per year for one to two years. A third year of funding is possible if the collaboration is progressing toward the development of a lead campus initiative. Funding is primarily intended to support graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. PI salary is discouraged but will be allowed for up to one month per year with specific justification.
Application Process
Eligibility: Any UC or UC-managed National Laboratory researcher with Principal Investigator status on their campus/lab. Preference for funding will be given to investigators who have not been previously supported by TSR&TP or our Lead Campus programs.
