TSR&TP Proposal Submission
Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Does TSR&TP allow indirect costs? Because we are a Multicampus Research Unit funded by UC, TSR&TP grants are for direct costs only. No indirect costs are allowed in the budget.

  2. Do student fellowship applications have to go through Contracts and Grants for approval? TSR&TP does not require Contracts & Grants Office approval for any grant applications, but your individual campus may require approval before releasing funds to the graduate student or faculty member. TSR&TP transfers grant funds directly to the applicant's home department. It is up to the applicant and their department grant administrator to ensure compliance with their campus rules.

  3. Does it matter for TSR&TP if I list a full stipend and only partial fees, or vice versa in my budget? The exact amount for fees and stipend may vary and is at your discretion, as long as the total budget does not exceed the maximum allowed per year.

  4. Does the page limit for the Research Plan include literature cited? Yes. The 5 pages of single-spaced text limit (for fellowships) or 10 pages (for grants) is for ALL sections of the Research Plan, including literature cited.

  5. Does the page limit include figures and tables? Yes. The page limit for the Research Plan includes everything you submit for the body of your proposal.

  6. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz and don't have a GPA. What do I put in my proposal? We have changed the requirement from submitting transcripts to reporting your GPA. If you do not have a GPA, put "no GPA given" in that field. If your proposal is funded, we may request a copy of your transcript.

  7. I am somewhat perplexed about the Technical Abstract, Nontechnical Abstract and Project Objective. Are these separate paragraphs? These are three different things. We have requested two separate abstracts and a couple of sentences describing the main objective of the project. The Nontechnical Abstract should be written for a lay audience - it will be made public upon funding. The Technical Abstract is for the reviewers.

  8. In the support section, should I list support I have gotten from TSR&TP only, or should I list any fellowships that I have had? Please list all fellowships, including TSR&TP support for both the Current Support and Past Support sections.
