Abstracts
- Technical abstract:
This abstract should be a succinct, accurate description of the proposed work when separated from the application. Limit to half a page. Proposal reviewers will use this abstract. Write it for an audience of varied disciplines. - Non-technical abstract:
Limit to half a page. This abstract will be posted on the TSR&TP website upon funding. Write it for an audience with no special knowledge of your field. - Project objective:
Provide a one to two sentence, non-technical description of the project's overall objectives and key milestones.
Budget
Because TSR&TP is a Multicampus Research Unit funded by UC, grants are for direct costs only. No indirect costs are allowed in the budget.
Amounts and descriptions for year 1 and year 2 of grant
- Budgets can be up to a maximum of $120,000 over 2 years
(Requests for a 3rd year of funding can be submitted separately midway through the 2nd year) - Personnel

- Benefits requested for year 1 and year 2
- Supplies (list by category)
- Equipment (itemize and provide justification)
- Travel (purpose, and if known, dates and locations)

For the applicant and coinvestigators
- Education & training
- Research & professional experience:
Include in chronological order relevant employment, grants and awards, publications, and professional activities (i.e. memberships). Limit to 2 pages.
Other Grant Support (current and pending)
For the applicant and coinvestigators
For each active grant, list the following, describing any areas of potential overlap between projects currently funded and the objectives and goals of this proposed project:
- PI(s)
- Source
- Amount
- Period of funding
- Title
- Objectives
- Overlap
Resources list
Specify the facilities to be used for the conduct of the proposed research. Indicate the performance sites and describe capacities, pertinent capabilities, relative proximity, and extent of availability to the project. Under "Other", identify support services such as machine shop, electronics shop, and specify the extent to which they will be available to the project.

Research Plan
Limited to 10 pages or less in PDF form - to be uploaded to site
- Specific Aims
Generally, hypothesis testing research and/or research directed towards understanding at a mechanistic level is more likely to be funded than purely descriptive studies. - Relevance to the UC TSR&TP and potential impacts to the State of California
We fund a broad range of studies in various disciplines, so this requirement is broadly construed. Consulting our list of previously funded projects and Research Needs will often help define relevance in this context. - Background
Why is this research project important enough to problems of toxics in the environment to warrant funding? Limit this section to 2 pages. - Research Design and Methods
How will you successfully carry out this research project? - Data Management/Statistical Analyses
What statistical analyses will be used to interpret the data? - Timetable and Milestones
Approximately how long will it take to complete each section of this research project and what milestones do you expect to achieve? - Future Importance of Research
How is your research relevant to or how does it address future problems? - Extramural Funding Potential
How will the results of this research project potentially lead to future funding? - Literature Cited
Additional Requirements
Collaborators (if any)If the proposal includes collaborators, people peripherally associated with the project, they will need to submit letters specifying their expertise and role in the project. Biosketch uploads are optional.
Statement of ComplianceEach coinvestigator will be sent an email with instructions to submit their Statement of Compliance for your project.
The proposal applicant and coinvestigators must agree to TSR&TP's terms and conditions of funding:
I agree to comply with all reporting requirements for each year the proposal is funded and/or extended, including the submission of progress and final reports on funded research activities, reports on related patent and licensing activities, reports on trainee career paths, and reports on significant social and economic contributions ensuing from supported research activities. I agree to acknowledge the TSR&TP for any publications resulting from TSR&TP funding. I understand that I am required to obtain appropriate PI status according to our campus policy. I further understand that presenting a poster of the research findings at the Annual Research Symposium and one oral presentation at a TSR&TP Advisory Committee meeting is expected for each year this proposal is funded and/or extended.
I also agree that if all the TSR&TP funds are not used by the end of the grant period, the PI must request a no cost extension or return the funds to the TSR&TP. If the PI leaves the University of California, all remaining funds must be returned to the TSR&TP.
To the best of my knowledge, all of the information submitted in this application is true and correct.
